We've spent years chasing waves across Aotearoa. Now we're building the world's best surf accommodation network — one shack at a time.
It Started with a Simple Idea
"What if you could wake up ten metres from the best waves in New Zealand?"
That was the question Tama Williams asked himself after another surf trip spent in a damp tent while perfect waves rolled through uncrowded at dawn. The break was world-class. The accommodation wasn't.
So he built a shack. A proper one — panoramic windows facing the lineup, outdoor shower for rinsing wetsuits, board racks on the porch. Friends asked to book it. Then friends of friends. Then strangers who'd heard about it through the surf grapevine.
That was the spark. We built 100 surf shacks, placed them at the country's most iconic breaks — from the endless lefts of Raglan to the raw Southern swells of the Catlins — and opened them to the world. Same philosophy every time: the surf comes first, and everything else follows.

What Makes a Surf Shack
Every shack in our fleet is built around one principle: the surf comes first. Here's what that means in practice.
100-Units & Growing
A purpose-built fleet of 100 surf shacks strategically placed at New Zealand's best breaks. Each one is independently hosted, surf-inspected, and bookable year-round.
Low Eco-Footprint
Our shack design is intentionally low-impact — solar power, rainwater collection, composting systems. We leave the coastline exactly as we found it.
Mobile by Design
Built on a trailer chassis, each shack can relocate as breaks shift, seasonal swells change, or new surf destinations emerge. Flexibility is built in.
The Land-Lease Model
Our shacks sit on leased pockets of private coastal land — negotiated directly with landowners who love the idea of hosting surfers. No permanent development, no concrete slabs, no damage to the coastline. When a lease ends, the shack moves and the land returns to its natural state. It's accommodation that works with the land, not against it.
